This week, I want to talk to you about the energy vampires in your life—or the people that seem to suck the life out of you. Get my top 3 strategies for handling the complainers, whiners, gossipers and generally negative people around you.
Strategy #1: Cut them out of your life.
This works well if the person is just an acquaintance or a colleague you don’t work closely with, because you can easily avoid them.
Strategy #2: Set boundaries.
This is all about being open with them and giving them a chance to change. Explain that you’re working on being more positive and eliminating negative energy around you. When they fall back into their old behaviors (which they likely will), just point it out to them. You can say something like, “Do you realize how negative you’re being?” They’ll probably apologize and then you can move on.
Strategy #3: Accept them as they are—but limit the time you spend together.
The third option is to accept them as they are, but to only see them in small doses. And when you’re with them, be sure to “surround yourself in the white light” and create an invisible barrier around yourself to block out their negativity.
